The Houston Rockets defeated the Los Angeles Lakers 104-92 Sunday to extend their winning steak to 22 games. More importantly though, they shut up all the talk radio hosts who said they hadn’t beaten a good team during the win streak.
Former Fresno St. standout Rafer Alston scored 31 points and hit eight 3-pointers, both career highs, to lead the Rockets, who claimed sole possession of first place in the Western Conference with the victory.
The Lakers were without Paul Gasol -out indefinitely with a sprained ankle- and have lost three out of their last four games.
The Rockets have won 26 out of their last 27 games and 31 of their last 34 despite being without all-star center Yao Ming for the past 10 games. Ming is out for the rest of the season with a broken foot.
The Rockets last lost was seven weeks ago today.
